Cookie Policy
Last updated: February 17, 2026
This page lists the cookies used on the Flarent website — essential, analytics and marketing — and explains what each one does.
1. About this Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, what we use them for on https://split-cityexcursions.com, and how you can control them.
It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail how we handle personal data.
The legal framework that applies to our use of cookies is:
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) — where cookies process personal data;
- Directive 2002/58/EC ("ePrivacy Directive") — which requires consent for the storage of, or access to, information on a user's device that is not strictly necessary for a service the user has requested;
- the Croatian Electronic Communications Act (Zakon o elektroničkim komunikacijama), which implements the ePrivacy Directive in Croatia.
2. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your computer, tablet, or phone when you visit it. Cookies let the site remember things about your visit — your language choice, your cookie preferences, items in a basket, or whether you are logged in.
We also use a few similar technologies that work like cookies but use slightly different mechanisms, including:
- Local storage and session storage — small bits of data stored by the browser, used to keep your session and preferences;
- Pixels and tracking tags — tiny invisible images (e.g., the Meta Pixel) that confirm a page has been loaded and pass some data back to the provider;
- Software development kits (SDKs) — code embedded in third-party widgets (e.g., booking or chat widgets) that can set cookies.
For simplicity, in the rest of this policy we refer to all of these as "cookies".
First-party vs third-party
- First-party cookies are set by Flarent (carrentalsplit.com).
- Third-party cookies are set by a different domain — for example, Google or Meta — when their service is loaded on our site.
Session vs persistent
- Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser.
- Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them.
3. The categories of cookies we use
We use four categories of cookies. The cookie banner that appears the first time you visit lets you accept all categories, reject all non-essential categories, or choose category by category. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the website footer.
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies (always active)
These cookies are essential for the site to work. They keep the website secure, remember your language choice, hold items in your inquiry/booking flow, and remember which cookie categories you have accepted. They cannot be turned off, because the site would not function correctly without them. They do not require consent under the ePrivacy Directive.
Typical strictly necessary cookies on this site:
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
XSRF-TOKEN | carrentalsplit.com | Security — protects forms against cross-site request forgery | Session |
october_session | carrentalsplit.com | Maintains the visitor session (OctoberCMS) | Session |
cookie_consent | carrentalsplit.com | Stores your cookie-banner choices | 12 months |
locale | carrentalsplit.com | Remembers your language (English / Croatian) | 12 months |
3.2 Analytics cookies (consent required)
These cookies help us understand how visitors find and use the website, so we can improve it. They count visits, traffic sources, pages viewed, and time on site. We use them in aggregated form — we do not try to identify individual visitors. Data is only set after you give consent.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google (Google Ireland Ltd) | Distinguishes unique users for Google Analytics 4 | 2 years |
_ga_ | Persists session state for GA4 | 2 years | |
_gid | Distinguishes users (legacy / GA Universal residual) | 24 hours | |
_gat, _gat_ | Throttles request rate to GA | 1 minute |
Google Analytics 4 is configured with IP-address handling that does not store full IPs and with advertising features turned off by default. Read Google's privacy documentation at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
3.3 Advertising and remarketing cookies (consent required)
We use these to measure the performance of our ads, to show you relevant ads on Google and Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram), and to avoid showing you the same ad too many times. They are only set after you give consent.
| Cookie / tag | Provider | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
_gcl_au | Google Ads | Conversion linking | 90 days |
IDE | Google (DoubleClick) | Ad targeting and measurement | 13 months |
NID, 1P_JAR | Ad personalisation across Google services | 6 months / 1 month | |
_fbp | Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd | Facebook/Instagram Pixel — identifies browser for ad delivery and measurement | 90 days |
fr | Meta | Ad delivery and measurement on Facebook | 90 days |
| Google Tag Manager container | Loads the tags above; does not by itself store identifying data | n/a |
Google Ads and the Meta Pixel may involve transfers of personal data outside the EEA (typically to the United States). We rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses as our legal safeguard. See Section 6 of our Privacy Policy.
3.4 Functional / embedded-content cookies (consent required where set)
Some pages embed third-party content — for example, Google Maps showing the location of our office, YouTube/Vimeo videos, or TripAdvisor and social media widgets. These providers may set their own cookies when their content loads. We only load these embeds after you give consent, except where we use a privacy-friendly preview that does not contact the third-party server until you click it.
| Provider | Typical purpose | More information |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | Display interactive maps | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
| YouTube / Vimeo | Embedded video | https://policies.google.com/privacy / https://vimeo.com/privacy |
| Facebook / Instagram | Social plugins, follow widgets | https://www.facebook.com/policies/cookies |
| TripAdvisor | Review widgets | https://tripadvisor.com/Privacy |
4. The exact list of cookies on this site
The exact set of cookies in use can change as we update the website. The tables above show the typical cookies for each category. For an up-to-date list at any time, click the "Cookie settings" link in the footer and open the category panels — each cookie is listed there with its purpose and lifetime.
5. How we ask for your consent
When you visit https://split-cityexcursions.com for the first time (or after clearing your cookies), a cookie banner appears at the bottom of the screen. It explains that we use cookies, gives a short summary of each category, and offers three equally prominent choices:
- Accept all — sets all categories;
- Reject all — only strictly necessary cookies are set;
- Cookie settings / Manage preferences — lets you toggle each non-essential category on or off.
We do not treat scrolling, continued browsing, or closing the banner as consent. Non-essential cookies are only set once you actively make a choice.
Your choice is stored in a cookie called cookie_consent and is remembered for 12 months. After that, we ask again. You can also reset your preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie settings" in the footer.
6. How to control cookies in your browser
In addition to our cookie banner, every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies. Most browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" signal and a "Global Privacy Control" signal — where the law requires us to honour these, we do.

For material changes, the cookie banner will re-appear so you can review and re-confirm your preferences.
